If you’re new to weight loss treatments and want to learn more about them, we’re here to help.
Tablets like (the brand name for Orlistat) work by reducing the amount of fat your body absorbs. Ordinarily, fats are broken down during the digestion process by enzymes called lipases. Xenical prevents these enzymes from working effectively, limiting how much fat your body is able to absorb. The remaining, undigested fat is then excreted.
In contrast to Xenical, weight loss injections (or pens) work by suppressing your appetite - particularly your appetite for fatty foods. Some weight loss injections also slow the digestion process down, making you feel fuller for longer. They’re simple to use - check out our for more information.
Clinical trials have repeatedly demonstrated the effectiveness of both weight loss tablets and injections, particularly in combination with a healthy diet and lifestyle., participants using lost almost 15% of their body weight over a 15-month period.

Overview
Xenical and Orlistat are two commonly prescribed weight-loss drugs with potential side effects. Both are medications that help reduce appetite and improve metabolism, but they differ in how they work. Xenical works by blocking the effects of appetite suppressants like phentermine on fat cells, which makes it more palatable to users. On the other hand, Orlistat works by inhibiting the appetite-suppressing enzymes, which contribute to appetite suppression. Both are weight-loss drugs that are effective for long-term use but have potential side effects such as weight gain or weight loss. Both drugs work by inhibiting the enzyme that makes appetite suppressants work by blocking the body's production of a chemical called appetite. Xenical blocks the effects of appetite suppressants, and Orlistat blocks the effects of phentermine. Both are effective for long-term use but have potential side effects such as weight gain or weight loss.
Objective:To compare the effectiveness of orlistat in the treatment of overweight and obese people in the community in the United States. Methods: This descriptive survey was conducted among 120 overweight and obese adults aged >60 years from the Veterans Affairs Health System (VA-VA) in Atlanta, GA between January 1, 1999, and December 31, 2003. Concomitant treatment was defined as weight loss of >150 kg, defined as >120 kg on the basis of body weight >40 kg in overweight or obese individuals, and/or >120 kg in overweight or obese adults without any weight loss. Outcomes measured using BMI were used to compare treatment with no treatment.
Study design:The study was a descriptive study. The study population was predominantly women aged >60 years, with a mean age of 68.7 years, and the mean BMI was 22.3 kg/m2. Participants were selected randomly from the VA-VA. The exclusion criteria were age >60 years, a personal or family history of gastrointestinal disease, diabetes mellitus, history of gastrointestinal diseases or ulcer disease, obesity, or any other health condition. The study protocol was reviewed by study staff. This study protocol was approved by the VA Health Care Research Center Institutional Review Board (IRB number: H-06-00004-0008).
Study protocol:A total of 120 overweight and obese people aged >60 years were recruited from VA-VA, United States between January 1, 1999, and December 31, 2003. Inclusion criteria were BMI >27 kg/m2, with orlistat (Orlistat) treatment if the participants had a BMI >27 kg/m2 or with orlistat only if they were at least mildly obese, with orlistat treatment if they were overweight, and no treatment. Exclusion criteria included patients with any history of gastrointestinal diseases, diabetes, or history of peptic ulcer disease. The participants were randomized to receive either orlistat (n=120) or placebo (n=60). The study population consisted of 90 overweight and 90 obese people aged >60 years, with BMI >27 kg/m2, with orlistat treatment if the participants had a BMI >27 kg/m2 or with orlistat only if they were at least mildly obese, and no treatment.
The study was designed as an open-label, non-randomized, fixed-dose crossover study. The dose of orlistat (1 mg/kg) was used to treat overweight and obese people in a randomized, non-placebo design, followed by one-week washout of placebo. The dose of orlistat (1 mg/kg) was administered after a single dose of orlistat (1 mg/kg) was given to the participants. Participants were followed up for 6 months to assess the effectiveness of orlistat treatment. The data on the effectiveness of orlistat treatment was analyzed by comparing baseline weight change from baseline to the end of the treatment period. For the analysis of the efficacy of orlistat treatment, the participants were followed up for the first 6 months to assess the effectiveness of orlistat treatment.
Data were collected through questionnaires administered at the beginning of treatment and continued until the end of the study. The data were analyzed by two investigators (A. C. and M. A. H.) using a computerized statistical software program (version 6.0.4, R Foundation for Statistical Computing, Vienna, Austria). The investigators reviewed and analyzed the data, and data were entered into the statistical software package (version 6.0.4, R Foundation for Statistical Computing, Vienna, Austria). The investigators determined the level of risk (defined as a difference in a patient's ability to achieve a significant change in weight from baseline to 6 months) at which the difference in change from baseline to the end of treatment was analyzed using the method of least-ESS. The researchers assessed the quality of the data using the following methods: cross-tabulation, analysis of variance, propensity score matching, propensity score matching, and propensity score using logistic regression. The investigators identified the baseline characteristics of the study participants and the reasons for treatment. The investigators assessed the frequency of the treatment and the reasons for the treatment using the chi-square test and the t-test. The investigators selected the sample size, and the researchers randomly selected the participants to take into consideration the possible risk of bias and the potential risk of bias.
